Salt is not an element; it's a compound. Elemental in this context means "reduced to...a stark simplicity." (Encarta)

Why Salt? And how this has nothing to do with the movie.

Themes run through my life in ways that surprise and delight me.  When I got my trail name, Salt, I wasn't sure I'd keep it.  But, I came to realize that the meaning goes deeper for me than one little incident of near heat exhaustion.  I embrace it and the relevance it has to my whole life, not just my life on the trail.
The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears or the sea.

Since I started backpacking regularly, I have considered keeping a journal of my adventures.  I enjoy reading the blogs of my hiking friends, and it seems I could at least make a record to enjoy myself.  If it provides information and enjoyment to others, so much the better!

But, what finally motivated me to set up this blog is Vegan MoFo.  I have been vegan for many years, and I love to read about the vegan culinary adventures of others.  Currently my life is in transition; I am returning to the kitchen after months of over-scheduled craziness.  I hope Vegan MoFo is just the push I need to return my focus to healthy cooking and eating.

Other topics will probably include baking bread, simplicity, yoga, travel, good books, and serendipity.

  3. You probably missed it because I never update it!! I have done loads of trips since I started it, with good intentions of documenting them. But, it seems like I never have the time.
